Cook Family Cemetery
Marion twp., Clayton county, IA
The Cook family cemetery is in a wooded area on private land which is still in the Cook family located about nine miles from Elkader. There is only one gravestone in the cemetery. It was placed there many years after Henry and Mary Cook, who were my maternal great great grandparents, and three of their children were buried there. The names and dates were engraved on the stone based on documents that the family had regarding who, in their family, was buried there.
Interestingly enough, one of the children buried there is named Jacob who died at less than a year or was possibly stillborn in 1854. Later, Henry and Mary had a son, born in 1862, who they also named Jacob and who was my great grandfather.
