H. C. Stinson was born in Sagadahoc County, Maine, Aug. 31, 1831. He came to Iowa in 1858, and settled in St. Charles, Floyd County, on the Cedar River. In the fall of 1861 he came to Clayton, where he has since resided. He is engaged in merchandising, and is also agent for a general insurance company. He held the office of Justice of the Peace from June 1, 1862, until June 1, 1880; Township Assessor, eighteen years; Township Trustee, several terms; and Township Clerk. He was married in 1857, to Abbie Sampson. She was born in Sagadahoc County, Maine, in 1831. They have two children- Estelle, born in 1859, and Anna, born in 1861.
