Jacob Miller, Sr., farmer and stock-raiser, son of Matthew Miller, a native of Germany, was born in that country in 1795. He came to the United States, and located in Ohio, where he lived three years, thence to Clayton County, Ia., and bought the farm he now occupies of 160 acres on section 5, which he has under a fine state of cultivation. He married Mary, daughter of John and Maria Shivel. By this marriage there are five children - Melchior, John, Jacob, George and Catherine. Mr. Miller and family are members of the Lutheran church. He has retired from active business, and his son, Jacob, has charge of the farm. Mr. Miller votes the Republican ticket. His son, George, has bought a fine farm of eighty acres on section 5, adjoining his fatherís.
