O. D. Loft, M. D., son of George and Almina Laft, nee Matson, was born in Fulton County, O., June 20, 1848. His primary education was received in the common schools of that county. He also attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon three yeras; afterward worked with his father in the manufacture of cooperate. They came to Iowa and located in Manchester, Delaware County, where they remained two years; then came to Clayton County. Dr. Laft studied medicine with Dr. J. M. Lanning during the winter of 1870, and in the fall of 1871 attended a course of lectures at Rush Medical College, Chicago, Ill. He then went to St. Louis and attended the Missouri Mecdical College one term, and again studied under Dr. Lanning. In the fall of 1872 he matriculted in the Iowa Medical College at Iowa City, from which he graduated in 1873. Since that time he has engaged in practice in Elkport. He was married in November, 1876, to Martha A. Garber, who was born in Clayton County, and was a daughter of Martin and Lucy Garber. They have two children--Grace Irene, and Martin G. Dr. Laft is a member of I. O. O. F. and A. O. U. W. lodges. In politics he affiliates with the Republcian party. source: History of Clayton County, Iowa, 1882, p. 1123 |
