Kriebs

George Kriebs, druggist, Elkport, was born in Clayton
County, Ia., Oct. 25, 1857. His parents were John P. and
Lena Kriebs, nee Weisman. The former was a native of
Germany, and emigrated to the United States in 1847. He
resided in Galena, Ill., until 1852, then removed to
Guttenberg, Ia., where he remained until his death, which
occurred in 1872. Mrs. J. P. Kriebs still resides there.
The subject of this memoir received a common-school
education, and attended the school of pharmacy in Dubuque
one and a half years, preparing himself for the drug
business. In 1873 he entered a store in Elkader, where he
remained until 1876; then moved to Dubuque. In 1878 he
establsihed his present store in Elkport. He carries a
full line of drugs and medicines, and has a lucrative
trade. His marriage occurred in 1877 to Louisa Cook, born
in 1859, and a daughter of A. D. Cook a resident of
Elkader. They have two children -- Frank D. and George A.
Mr. Kriebs is the present Justice of the Peace in the
township.
