E. Knight

Myron E. Knight was born in Norwich, Hampshire County,
Mass., Feb. 19, 1842. His parents were Samuel H., and
Betsey (Stevens) Knight. Samuel was born Nov. 28, 1803,
and died in Clayton County, Ia., Dec. 31, 1873. Betsey
was born Jan. 22, 1812, in Chester, Mass., and died Dec.
5, 1873, in Clayton County, Ia. Myron E. had nine
brothers and sisters, three of whom are dead, one died in
infancy--Mary Alice was born July 25, 1852, and died June
3, 1863; Samuel Judson, born June 22, 1838, died Sept.
23, 1863; the first child died in Massachusetts; the two
last died at Myron's house, in Lodomillo Township, Ia.
When Myron was thirteen years old his parents moved to
Iowa, and settled on a far m on section 30, Lodomillo
Township, where he now resides. He was married Jan. 1,
1871 to Bessie J. Gilbert, who was born in Chenango Co.,
N.Y., March 2, 1842, and was a daughter of Lyman and
Sallie (Holcomb) Gilbert. Their union has been blessed
with five children, four living--Alice M., Johnnie S.,
Willie M. and Katie M. Charlie W. died Jan. 26, 1882,
aged eighteen months. On Aug. 11, 1862, the subject of
this memoir enlisted in Company B, Twenty-First Iowa
Infantry Volunteers, and served until the close opf the
war. Two of his brothers also participated in the war;
one of them, John S., being wounded at the battle of Pea
Ridge. Mr. Knight owns a farm of 160 acres, 100 under
good cultivation, and thoroughly stocked. He is a member
of Strawberry Point Lodge, No. 131, A.O.U.W. In politics
he is a Republican.
