William Thiese -born April 1, 1835 in the Providence of Hanover, Schnern, Germany. He died on April 14, 1915 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. He emigrated to the United States in 1865 with his first wife and two children, Wilhelm J. and Henrich. Information on William's first wife is still unknown. She died circa 1868 in Iowa and he married Magdalena shortly after. Obituary

Magdalena Thiese -born July 11, 1842 in Bavaria, Rupboden, Germany. Died May 5, 1919, Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. She emigrated to the United States in 1867. She was the mother of 9 children and step mother to 3 children from William’s former wife. Obituary

Wilhelm J. (William) -born in 1862 in Providence of Hanover, Schnern, Germany. He emigrated to the USA in 1865.

Heinrich (Henry) -born February 27, 1863 in Providence of Hanover, Schnern, Germany. He emigrated to the USA in 1865. Died March 18, 1903 in Postville, Iowa. Married Clara Amelia Spoo on February 16, 1886. Children were Ida (1889), William (1892) and Michael (1903).

August W. -born December 21, 1867 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. He was first child born in Iowa. August married Dorothea Ryberg in Oelwein Iowa in 1890. They had 8 children. Stella (1891), Eldo (1893), Laura (1896), Dorothy (1899), Esther (1902), Ruth (1905), Wilfred (1907), and Leonard (1910). He died February 14, 1950 in Flint, Michigan. He is buried in Alexandria, South Dakota.

Herman -born circa 1875 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. Date of death unknown. In the 1930 census he is living with brother Otto H. Thiese. He was not married.

Louise 'Lizzie' -born circa 1877 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. Married Fred Mueller / Miller of Clayton. Married suname was spelled both ways in different documents.

Fredrich -born circa 1879 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa.

Catherine 'Kate' -born circa 1882 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. Married Edward Bergman.

Otto H. -born circa 1883 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. According to the 1930 census his wife was Hilda 35' daughters Edith 16, Hilda B. 13, Caroline 7; sons William O. 4, and Lawrence 7 months.

George -born circa 1885 in Jefferson township, Clayton county, city of Guttenberg, Iowa. According to the 1930 census his wife was Ida 30; daughters Ruth 8 and Ruby 5.

William J. Thiese

William J. (Wilhelm) Thiese, son of William Thiese and his first wife. William J. married Anna Kostal. They removed to Mitchell, South Dakota and had two daughters, Irene and Lottie. William J. & Anna are buried in Graceland cemetery, Mitchell, S.D.

Buried at Ceres Cemetery near Guttenberg, Iowa. Obituary Gertrude L. L. Borcherding – born October 2, 1917 near Osterdock & died April 16, 2000. Buried at Ceres Cemetery. Obituary Thiese homestead near Ceres, May 1972 Homestead of the 80 acre farm that Ferdinand O. & Gertrude operated from 1941 until they retired in the early 1980's and moved to Garnavillo. This view was taken in May of 1972.
