I recently inherited my
great-great-grandfather Daniel Nehls photo album.
Unfortunately none of photos are unidentified. About 1878
Daniel moved his family to western Iowa where they
remained. I think the photos are all from
Clayton County and I would like to know if anyone
recognizes any of the people. Please email me
if you can ID anyone; please refer to the photo number
(kathyaschneider@hotmail.com) Daniel
August Christian Nehls was born August 8, 1825 in
Germany. He came to the United States in 1853. He married
Maria Cords in Garnavillo, August 1856. Maria was born
Aug 15, 1837. Daniel farmed, and he was also a physician,
but must not have widely practiced. They were blessed
with 13 children, 8 of them died of diphtheria and are
buried in Garnavillo cemetery. |
I have no other information about any of the photos.
1 The first picture in the album, so I'm wondering if it could be Daniel August Christian Nehls |

13 Tintype Note the pillar in the background of photos 13 & 14 appears to be identical. If so, the photos likely were taken in the same studio. |
