Miss Emma Smith of Greenfield is spending a week visitng her relatives, the families of Messrs. H. M. Sutherland and Aaron Carr...The body of Mrs. Howe was brought here Monday and buried at the Union church. She had been making her home with her son in Chariton after the death of her daughter, seven weeks since. She was sixty-eight years of age and a member of the Congregational church. Her son, captain in the U.S. army, located at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was in attendance at the funeral...Mr. Morris and family of Des Moines, are spending a week at the Eden house. Mr. Morris is frescoing the new M.E. church. Mr. Weis of York, Nebraska visited his cousins Georgia and Fred Parkes last week. Mr. Frank Smith's baby is quite sick.

December 20, 1894

Miss Chandler, a niece of Mrs. Steve Andrews' is clerking at the Fair...The Epworth League gave a social at Mr. Parker's, one and one-half miles west of town, Tuesday eve. Each gentleman received his supper, a necktie and a pleasant lady companion for the evening...School closes on Friday for a two weeks' vacation during the holidays. Prof. Newkirk will eat Christmas turkey with relatives in Drakeville. The boys of class No.3 will give a Kaffee Klatch social at the home of their teacher, Emma Sells, Friday evening, December 21st. Their bill of fare including Adam's ale, Noah's son, staff of life, overthrow at Boston, etc. will be served in European style. Another fire in Murray last week. About 1 o'clock, Friday night, some one discovered fire in Mr. McClintic's house. There was about $200 insurance, we understand, which does not nearly cover the loss...There was a home literary at Mr. Ogden's, Friday night, given by Miss Chanberlain and pupils. They will meet this week at Mr. Sellon's.

Mrs. Aaron Carr visited rerlatives and friends in Creston last week...Mrs. F. W. Vincent's sister from Knoxville arrived Saturdaynight for a week's visit with her...B. F. Stockwell left for Dixon, Illinois, Monday for a visit at his son's...Addie Hinsey enjoyed a surprise from quite a number of her friends Saturday evening. On Sunday evening she left for a prolonged visit with relatives in Galesburg, Illinois...Mr. Camaron Kendall is spending the holidays with his cousin Orville Elrod at Knowlton, Iowa...Leon Valentne came home from Quincy, Illinois, where he has been attending college for some time...The electric belt troupe are at the opera house for a week... Mrs. J. E. Wick left last Friday for Quasqueton for a vbisit with her daughter, Mrs. O. P. Son??er...
