Formation Diamond
Township, constituted September 7, 1871, is all of congressional
township 90-39. It is the southeastern township of the county, south of
Pitcher and east of Silver townships. It originally belonged to Silver
Township.
Early Settlers Earliest
settlers were John and Joseph Dowding. They were followed by the Jennis
family. By August 1870, Hiram Lord and family arrived from Michigan.
First Events Birth and Death: a son born to John H. Johnson in the fall of 1870. He lived only a month. Marriage: John H. Dowding in the autumn of 1870 Schoolhouse: a frame-house built in 1873. Teacher was Miss Ella Fairfield
