My
grandfather, Thomas C. Dexter, settled in Willow, IA in 1868 with
his wife Mary Ann (Noyes) Dexter.. My Aunt Marie, his daughter, told me
that he lived in a sod hut and went to town once every 6 months. He and
his adopted son, Charles Haughui, one day went into town for supplies
and were caught in a snow storm. They hitched the horses to a tree,
climbed into the wagon between the straw and hay and pulled blankets
over them and survived the storm..Thomas later moved to Little Rock ,
Lyon Co, IA and homesteaded there for many years.
