Those Girls.

Listen, young people, Miss Wilson is calling,
Time strikes the hour for school to dismiss.
Now while you hear me, oh! please do remember
To fill up the lines and obey me in this.

Break not the rules that we ask you to heed,
You who are older and know what is best
If others don't do it you just take the lead
And step off the walk and make room for the rest.

We listen in silence for the tale it is old,
For similar warnings we've had by the score.
But some laughing youngster too much over bold
Cuts off the corner as he's done oft before.

Next morning when called to account for the act,
This gallant young man on the girls lays the blame.
They block up the walks in crowds so compact
That the fellows to other paths must lay claim.

And now the girls try their best to obey,
But the custom is old and they still block the way.
Miss Wilson may talk and talk every day,
But still the girls stand there and won't come away.
