Pictured above, Andrew and Emma (Darnold) Erickson. The photo was taken in Omaha, Nebraska, but Andrew and Emma resided in Cass County for many years. They apparently had no children of their own, but fostered at least four children from Emma's brothers and sisters.

Emma and Andrew adopted two brothers who were the sons of Emma's sister Anna Adelia Darnold and William Preston Moore. Their names were Thaddeus Andrew Moore and Preston William Moore. In 1915, Preston was still living with them in Massena. Emma and Andrew also adopted two sisters, Hazel and Fern, pictured below.

Hazel and Fern (above) were the natural children of Robert Lee Darnold and Lulu Independence Thornton. Robert and Lulu had four daughters, and after Lulu's death the youngest two went to live with Emma and Andrew and were eventually adopted by them. Hazel married Ivan Charles Vettrick. Hazel and Ivan had two children and lived in Cass County. Fern married Henry Clifford Antisdel from Massena, where they lived for some time.
