CHAPTER VII.
PYMOSA TOWNSHIP (CONT'D).
The first district schools of the township were opened in what are now known as Nos. 5 and 8. The first school in No. 5 was taught in the summer of 1860 by Sarah Rush, at the dwelling of Mr. Brinkerhoff. In 1864 the first school building in the district was erected and Emiline Lorah, another of Judge Lorah's daughters, was the teacher. The building was used for school purposes until 1875, when a new one was erected.
The first school in what is now District No. 8 was taught in 1863 by John Gingery, in a log cabin on section 27, it being located on the property of his elder brother, Edward. A school house was built on section 34, in the fall of 1868, which was used until the erection of another building in 1879.
The first school house in District No. 1 was built in 1864; in No. 3, during the fall of the same year; in No. 2, fall of 1872; in No. 4, in the same year, although prior to 1872 a school was taught in a log cabin on section 19, by Emma J. Harris, afterward the wife of H. C. Herbert, of Audubon county; in Nos. 6 and 7, also during the year 1872, and in School District No. 9, a building for educational purposes was erected in 1874.
