HISTORICAL.
In presenting the proceedings of the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Cass County Farmers' Institute to the public a little history will not be out of place.
In the fall of 1889 many farmers desired to hold an institute in Cass County. Accordingly Geo. W. Franklin and O. W. Rich were appointed a committee to prepare a program and make necessary arrangements. This first Institute was to be a trial or test of the Cass County farmers. It proved a great success surprising even old institute workers. Every winter since there has been a very interesting Institute held: each proving more successful than the previous one. The ladies taking their full share of the literary work besides preparing banquets for the last two meetings.
This year a Constitution and By-Laws were adopted which are published here and fully explained.
The publishing of the proceedings in pamphlet form is hoped to bring out better papers and also make the Institute of lasting value.
Every one interested in farming should become a members.
