THOMAS LLOYD (DECEASED), EDNA TOWNSHIP
Thomas Lloyd was one of the pioneers of this township and lived twenty honorable years within its limits. He was born in Rodenshire, Enland, on the first of January, 1822, and reached manhood in his native country, engaged both in agricultural pursuits and at the stone mason's trade. In 1845 Mr. Lloyd was married to Margaret Meredith, sister of Thomas Meredith, the pioneer of Brighton township. His wife died in England, the mother of the following children: Samuel T., a resident of Kansas and an attorney by profession; Emily (Mrs. L. B. Worthington), and Esther (Mrs. Boggs), of Edna township; Mary (Mrs. Whistler), of Oklahoma; Isabella (Mrs. Smith), of Cass county, and Martha (Mrs. Estus), also living in Oklahoma. One of the seven children died in the United States.
In 1868 Mr. Lloyd brought his family of seven children to this country, coming directly to Cass county and joining Thomas Meredith near Lewis. He at once purchased a tract of land in section 20, Edna townshp, and, within the succeeding twenty years bought adjoining property, erected a handsome and comfortable residence, made many other modern improvements, and was the final owner of 120 acres of land as desirable as any estate of equal extent in the township. His death was a real loss to the community; but his good name and influence live in those whom he brought to a useful manhood and womanhood, several of whom still reside in his adopted township..
