HENRY M. KRIGER, GRISWOLD.
This leading farmer of Cass township, this county, who is so well known and highly esteemed as a farmer, a citizen and a public official, is a native of Missouri born in Warren county on January 28, 1870. He is a son of Herman and Louisa (Rethorst) Kunze, the former born in Germany and the latter, in the United States. The father was but four years of age when he was brought to this country by his parents, who settled in Missouri, and there some years later they died. Their son, the father of Albert, grew to manhood in Missouri and followed farming there until his death, which occurred in 1882. His wife died in 1873. They had a family of five sons and two daugters, all of whom are living and three of them residents of this county.
Albert J. Kunze grew to years of maturity in his native State, and obtained a common school education in its public schools. He remained there until 1887, when he became a resident of Cass county, this State, where he has lived ever since. He has been active and energetic as a farmer and has improved and developed a good farm in his township, greatly to his own profit and the advantage of the neighborhood. He has served as school treasurer two years and is, fraternally, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Modern Brotherhood of America. He and his wife belong to the Congregational Church.
On February 22, 1891, Mr. Kunze was united in marriage with Rosa C. Kueker, a sister of the wife of Frederick Sherer (a sketch of whom will be found on another page of this work). Mr. and Mrs. Kunze have two children, Walter F. and Arnold. The father is well known in his part of the county, and is held in cordial regard and good will by all his friends and neighbors, and the people generally who have the pleasure of a personal knowledge of him. He is one of the substantial citizens of his township.
