EDWARD KIMBALL
An Illinoisan by birth and a lifelong farmer, Mr. Kimball is a resident of this county of thirty years' standing, and, without any exaggeration, may therefore be called an adopted son of Cass county; further, he is one who has made himself so necessary to the well-being of the community that it could ill afford to lose him. He was born in McHenry county, Ill., on the 10th of November, 1851, son of Sidney and Martha (Kimball) Kimball, both natives of New Hampshire. About 1829, the father, who was a farmer, moved to Elgin, Ill., and his marriage was the first in that place. His wife died in McHenry county in 1856, and he survived her until 1873. They had a family of ten children, equally divided as to sex, and Edward is the one who lives in this county.
Edward Kimball was reared. educated and agriculturally trained in his native county, and at the age of twenty-five (in 1876) became a resident farmer of Cass county. In the following year he purchased the land which he has since cultivated and improved to such good advantage.
On October 9, 1878, Mr. Kimball was married to Maria Jones, daughter of John Jones, who came from Illinois in 1870. He was born in England and died in this county. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kimball have become the parents of Ada L. (Mrs. Keller), Jess, Martha, Ralph and Ruth. In public matters Mr. Kimball has served as a trustee of the township and held other minor offices.
