WARREN J. GRINNELL, PLEASANT TOWNSHIP.

In the early period of middle age, Mr. Grinnell is still a pioneer of Pleasant township. He is a native of Hamilton county, N. Y., where he was born January 26, 1865, the son of Thomas B. and Frances A. (Morrison) Grinnell. His parents were both born in the Empire State and in 1870 with their family, migrated to this county. In the spring of that year (our subject being then a little more than five years of age) they located on a tract of prairie land in Pleasant township and commenced the development of a family homestead.

The father continued to add to the original farm, thoroughly improving it as he increased its area, until he had the satisfaction of possessing 200 acres of valuable agricultural property, including productive land and good buildings; and this creation of an attractive and desirable homestead from the unbroken soil was almost entirely his own handiwork. Thomas B. Grinnell died on the home place in the year 1894, his wife having passed away fourteen years before. The deceased were members of the Presbyterian Church. They were the parents of six children, all of whom are alive, three being residents of this county--our subject and two of his sisters. The paternal grandfather, Abraham Grinnell, was a native of Vermont and a farmer. He married Louisa Dewey and died in New York State.

Warren J. Grinnell received his entire education and practical training, both in the school room and on the farm, as a resident of Cass county. Until he had attained his majority he assisted his father in the labors of the farm, both in its operations and improvement, and after his marriage, about that time, continued to be engaged in agricultural labor in the vicinity.

In 1886 Mr. Grinnell was united in marriage to Ida L. Bishop, a native of Ohio and the daughter of Jesse and Susan J. (Davis) Bishop. Her parents first located in Atlantic soon after it was founded, in 1869, but during the following year settled in Pleasant township. Mr. Bishop died in 1870. The mother is still living, making her home with her children.

Four children, all sons, have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Warren J. Grinnell--Roy S., Clarence R., Cecil and Russell B. The family are members of the Presbyterian Church or Sunday school. Mr. Grinnell is a home-loving man, and although he is a member of the Court of Honor, is not prominent in fraternal matters. He is a good farmer, a good husband and father, a good citizen, and altogether a highly respected and eminently useful member of the community.
