DANIEL P. BECKER, BEAR GROVE TOWNSHIP.

The gentleman above named is the son of a pioneer of Stephenson county, Ill., where his father settled in 1847. His parents were Adam and Mary (Newcomer) Becker, natives of Germany who emigrated to that county during the year mentioned. The father entered a tract of good land, spent the balance of his life in improving it and rearing his large family, and died in 1902; his good wife, and helpmate in this laudable work, passed away the year previous. Of the eight children born to them, six are living, but our subject is the only resident of Cass county. One of the sons enlisted in an Illinois regiment, during the Civil War, and was killed in June, 1862; another saw active service in 1865, but survived.

Daniel P. Becker was born in Stephenson county, Ill., on August 22, 1862. He was reared upon the family homestead, with all the hard work and solid training which the statement of that fact implies. In 1884 he married Martha Runte, herself a native of Illinois, and four children have been born to the union--Earl F., Gale, Clare and Fern.

Mr. Becker has been a useful and respected resident of this county since 1894, when he came from his native county and bought the farm where he still resides. He has served as trustee of the township, is well known in the work of the Methodist Church, and is all that a progressive member of the community should be.
