VAUGHAN - The great grandparents Vaughan hailed from Coon Rapids, in Carroll
County. In checking the social security death records I noted that someone named
Ada Vaughan passed away with a last address as Coon Rapids, so it must be true
there have been Vaughans there! Our Vaughan family was supposed to be from Coon
Rapids. WALTER MERLE VAUGHAN, the grandfather was born either November 13, 1884
or December 3, 1896, perhaps in Coon Rapids. But he and his bride ELSIE, born
September 27, 1899 moved to Rockford, Illinois where they raised their family.
There was an older brother Waite Vaughan and a baby sister June Vaughan in this
family also. I haven't found a record for their parents yet. I was told there
was an Aunt Ruthie who lived on the farm and was alive and visited in the
1950's, unfortunately, I do not know her surname, though it may have been
Vaughan. It would be fun to hear from anyone who could corroborate this family
legend. And it would be nice to add to the family lore. They are all deceased as
well as their children, and half their grandchildren. Tracing them is like
tracing the musical talent in the family. Music was important to this family.
Aunt June was a concert pianist in Rockford, and her nephew, young Wally, was
the leader of the Cherry Valley High School band and orchestra. His sister
played the piano and all the children were raised with music. Thanks for any
help! E-mail: Barbara Brehm Posted November 30, 1998.
