“Aged Pioneer Settler Called To His Reward
With the passing of Mr. Axel Ponsar, we are called upon to chronicle the death of another aged pioneer settler. Mr. Axel Ponsor passed away last Saturday morning. He was a member of a family who were among the very first settlers in this community. He had seen this part of the state develop from an uninhabited wilderness to what it is today. He had gone through all the struggles and deprivations of the pioneers. He could leave with the assurance that the homesteaders had chosen wisely for themselves and their children when they had decided to locate in this district. Mr. Pansor was born in Ljung Parish, Sweden on the 20th day of March 1856. When he was a lad of 12 his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andreas Pansor emigrated to the United States with their family. They resided in Moline, IL for about 1 year and then located in Fort Dodge, IA for a short time. In 1868 the father had filed on a homestead about 2 ½ miles West of where Albert City is now located. In the spring of 1870 the family moved to the new home. Axel Ponsor spent 58 years of his life in this community. Many of his experiences would be of interest and value to relate if space permitted. His schooling was received in one of the first schools established, namely the so-called Spragg School. His parents were charter members of the Swedish Lutheran Church, organized in 1873. Mr. Pansor was a member of the first confirmation class consisting of 3 boys. They were confirmed 7 May 1874 by Rev. M. C. Ranseen. He has, therefore, been a member of the Lutheran Church during its entire existence. In 1884 he was joined in marriage to Mathilda Olander. To this union were born 7 children, all of whom, except Victoria who died at the age of 13, are living and were present at the funeral services. Mrs. Pansor died 28 May 1913. During the last few years, Mr. Pansor has been ailing and has been bedridden for the last 23 months. He gradually weakened until he went to sleep in physical death on 1 December 1928 at the age of 72 years 8 months and 1 day. He was of a quiet and kind disposition. During his last long illness he never complained but thankfully received all tokens of friendship. He was not inclined to advertise himself or his feelings. In his humble way he bore witness of confidence in the Lord’s guidance. He was a good father, a faithful member of his church, and a loyal citizen of his community and country. We believe he went to sleep in peace and emigrated this time to a new, heavenly country. He is mourned by his 6 children, namely, Mrs. H. B. Lilienthal, Miles City, MT; Frank Pansor, Roscoe, IL; Mrs. August Clausen, Oscar Pansor, Mrs. Marcus Harald, and Mrs. O. E. Danielson, all of Albert City; 4 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 19 grandchildren, 1 sister namely Mrs. Chas. A. Anderson, as well as many other relatives and a large host of friends and neighbors. The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon. After a short service at the August Clausen home, a service was held at the Lutheran Church. The choir rendered several numbers. Rev. O. E. Olman officiated and spoke in Swedish and English. The interment was at Fairfield Cemetery, where also rest the parents and a brother, and where he awaits the summons on resurrection morn. Peace be to his memory!”1895 Iowa State Census, household 100, Albert City, Buena Vista Co, IA

“Storm Lake Pilot Tribune, 6 June 1913, under Albert City news--
This Thursday morning the news was passed that Mrs. Axel Ponsor had died Wednesday evening. It came as a great surprise to the community. She has been poorly the greater part of the winter, but was up and around until about a week ago, but a few knew she had been taken down again, thus the greater surprise at hearing of her death. The funeral services were held at the house Saturday afternoon at 1:15 and at the Swedish Lutheran Church at 2:30. The body was laid to rest in the Fairfield Cemetery.”OBIT:
