BLAINE. A country postoffice in Maple Valley township, Buena Vista county, 10 miles southwest of Buena Vista county, 10 miles southwest of Storm Lake, the county seat and nearest banking point, 8 miles south of Alta, on the I. C. C. R. R. and 5 miles north of Schaller, on the C. & N. W. Ry, the nearest railroad station. Settled in 1870. Stages, with mail tri-weekly to Storm Lake. F. T. Griffith, postmaster. CROZIER. A country postoffice on Coon river, in Grant township, Buena Vista county, 8 miles northeast of Storm Lake, the county seat, 7 northwest of Newell, on the I. C. Ry, the nearest railroad station and banking point. Settled in 1873, it contains a German Methodist church, and ships produce. It is on the semi-weekly stage route from Newell to Sioux Rapids, 19 miles north. Mail, 4 times weekly. J. N. Smith, postmaster. Buchholz Fred, justice of peace. HIRE’S GROVE. Buena Vista county. Name changed to Peach. LINN GROVE, A village on the Little Sioux river, and on the E. G. & S. R. line C. & N. W. Ry, in Barnes township, Buena Vista county, 140 miles from Des Moines, 20 north of Storm Lake, and 7 west of Sioux Rapids, the nearest banking point. Settled in 1866. Ships live stock and produce. Population, 200. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am. Mail, daily. C. L. Ward, postmaster. Bennett G W, hotel. MARATHON. A village on the E. G. & S. R. line of the C. & N. W. Ry, in Poland township, Buena Vista county, 135 miles northwest of Des Moines, 25 northeast of Storm Lake, the county seat, and 10 east of Sioux Rapids, the nearest banking point. Settled in 1882, it contains a Methodist church, and ships grain and live stock. Population, 80. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am. Mail, daily. R. Olney, postmaster. Ball E R, tel, railroad and exp agt. MAYVIEW. Buena Vista county. Name changed to Marathon. MENOTI. A country postoffice, on the North Coon creek, in Lee township, Buena Vista county, 160 miles northwest of Des Moines, 18 northwest of Storm Lake, the county seat, 6 southwest of Marathon, the nearest railroad station, 6 southeast of Sioux Rapids, the nearest banking point. Settled in 1869. Ships grain and live stock. It is on the semi-weekly mail stage route from Sioux Rapids to Newell. Population, 75. Mrs. Rose Noel, postmaster. |
