Charles Foster
October 14, 1874 --- August 12, 1968

Charles Foster was a consulting engineer in Duluth, Minnesota from 1922. He was a native of Dwight, Illinois. Mr. Foster received his degree in 1897 from the Iowa College of Agriculture and Mechanical Engineering, now Iowa State college at Ames. He was a life member of the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, the Duluth Engineer’s Club, the National Association of Professional Engineers, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, and the Society of Illuminating Engineers. In 1948 he was designated an honorary life member in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He expanded to a partnership in 1956. The firm became Foster, Jacobs and Johnson. He and Bessie Whiteman Foster married at Goldfield, Iowa, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 1962. They were members of Pilgrim Congregational church and resided for many years at 2831 East 1st Street. Mrs. Foster died in 1963 at age 89.

The photographs document the utility and power plants of a variety of Duluth, Minnesota and Iron Range (Virginia, Hibbing, Ely) city buildings and schools. Other Minnesota and South Dakota city buildings are also documented.
