Alice Waters, 86, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Cedar Falls Health Center in Cedar Falls. Funerals services for Alice Waters were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary VanWert officiated. Burial was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. Friends called at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the church one hour prior to the service.
Betty Alice Nielsen was born February 28, 1925 in Mason City, the daughter of Niels and Johanne (Jakobsen) Nielsen. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. On November 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Merle Waters. They moved to Charles City where they ran the State Farm Insurance Office. She also worked for Northwestern Bell. Alice was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also taught infant swimming at eh YMCA. Alice enjoyed needlework, family vacations and sharing life’s experiences with everyone. Her home and yard will always be remembered as favorite gathering places for all the neighborhood children. Living family members include four children, David (Linda) Waters of Northwood, Barb Waters of Cedar Falls, Kevin Waters of Cedar Falls and Jim (Stacey) Waters of Granger; five grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Ritzert, Christina (Phillip) Rice, Mike Water, Nathan Waters and Erica Waters, four great grandchildren, Alex and Ben Ritzert and Zoey and Hayden Rice; a brother, Paul (Marie) Neilsen of Mason City; and a sister, Edie (Bruce) Meeker of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, on October 26, 1996; and a brother, Dane Nielsen. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 601 Milwaukee Street, Charles City, IA 50616. The Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.
