Clifford L. Ehlenfeldt, age 101, of Eyota, died Sunday, April 10, at the Golden Living Center-Whitewater in St. Charles, Minn.
He was born March 31, 1910, in Miranda, South Dakota, to Winifred Elizabeth (Brownell) and Lawrence Ehlenfeldt. They lived in Wadena, Minn., and then in 1926 he and his younger brother, Neil, brought their belongings and cattle to Weaver, Minn., and then took the cattle to a farm near Plainview. Several years later he struck out on his own, working at various jobs until he met the love of his life, Pearl Ruth Schultz. They were married on July 1, 1933, in Winona, Minnesota. Clifford helped build the dams on the Mississippi River, and worked in California during the war, where he and his wife worked in the shipyards. After the war they returned to Winona and lived on and worked her family farm. They then moved to a farm near Altura. In 1950 he began managing the Simon Turkey Hatchery in Altura where he stayed to 13 years. Later he worked for G & Q Construction. He also worked for the Altura Hardward store until retirement. After retirement, he and his wife wintered in Mission, Texas, and summered in southern Minnesota. In 1986, he and his wife moved to Eyota, Minn., where they lived the rest of their lives with their son and his family. Clifford was active in the Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, chopping wood and cracking black walnuts. Survivors include three sons, Ralph (Denise) Ehlenfeldt, Kensett, Iowa, David (Lori) Ehlenfeldt, Eyota, Minn., and Allyn (Lora) Ehlenfeldt, of Winona, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bille Ann Garver of Florence, Washington.
