Betty Pauline Miller
(August 17, 1940 - April 4, 2011)

Northwood Anchor, Northwood, Iowa, Wed., March 30, 2011, p.11
Betty Pauline (Thompson) Miller, 70, of Greenesboro, Ala., passed away April 4, 2011, at her home. She was born the 17th of August, 1940, to Russell and Viola Thompson of the Northwood, Iowa area. She attended school and graduated from Carpenter, Iowa, in 1958. Betty worked at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., for several years. She then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she worked at St. Joseph Hospital. In about 1995 she and her husband moved to a small hobby farm in Ohio, then Betty started raising miniature horses, goats and other miscellaneous farm animals. She always loved animals; they were her “babies.” Missing Arizona they moved back to Phoenix, animals in tow. After 13 years she moved to a small farm in Alabama to be near her daughter and grandsons. There she continued to raise and love her animals and grew a small rose garden. Survivors include her mother, Viola Thompson, now of Austin, Minn.; a daughter, Lorrie Rinehart of Pelham, Ala.; a son, Barry El Dahl of Lino Lakes, Minn.; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrna Merfeld of Weslaco, Texas, and Dulcie (Lynn) Thompson of Austin, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and co-workers. Betty was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, first husband, and a brother-in-law. A memorial service will be held atop her favorite mountain peak, Piestewa Peak (formerly Squaw Peak) in Phoenix, Ariz. At a later date.
