Suicide at Grafton.
Northwood Index:-The Index in its last issue made brief mention of Michael Glassell’s suic{i}dal death which occurred at Grafton last Thursday morning. All the harrowing details of that deplorable affair and the perhaps more deplorable circumstances which led up to it were given us last evening. We have no space for them in this issue, but may give them latter as they make temperance sermon of the strongest kind. Mr. Glassell was subject to attacks of insanity, doubtless the result of alcoholism—in short he was a victim of evil passions and the saloon. As the authorities at Grafton were about to convey him to Northwood for safe keeping he took a heavy dose of strychine, washing it down with whiskey. Life must have become a burden to him. Disease and evil habits had made him at times, a terror to his family, and sorrowful as his ending was, it may have been a relief.
