Brenda Jessen-Herthel, 64, of Kingsley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Kingsley Specialty Care in Kingsley.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2024, at the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Pastor Jody Still-Herbold will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will follow the service during a time of fellowship at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.

Brenda Jeanne Jessen, the daughter of Frederick and Marjorie Eleanore (De Lambert) Jessen, was born on November 8, 1960, in Le Mars, Iowa. She grew up in Pierson, Iowa, where she attended school. She graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1979.

Brenda married Steve Bumsted out of Oto. IA. To this union, 2 children were born: Amanda and Joshua Bumsted. After their marriage, they moved to California. Brenda then divorced and married Cliff Herthel where they lived in Lake Elsinore, CA and Somer Herthel was born. Brenda worked as a secretary for the Lake Elsinore School District for more than 10 years.

In late 2015 Brenda moved back to Kingsley following her stroke and loss of vision. She lived with her mother in Kingsley.

Over the years, she enjoyed shopping, cooking, and animals, especially her cats. She also enjoyed crafting where she created many items out of wood. She also enjoyed attending concerts and having picnics. After moving back to Iowa, she always looked forward to annual trips back to California during Christmas to see her son and family.

Survivors include her children: Amanda Harwood, Joshua Bumsted (Nancy Lara), and Somer Bizzel; grandchildren, Gavin Bumsted, Aubrey Bumsted, Jacob Bumsted, Frankie Harwood, Ryder Henning, Joseph Olney, and Landon Olney; and many friends, including Tron Klingensmith of Washta, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Jessen; and her sister, Roxanne Jessen.
