Darrell Lester Masters, born on March 31, 1944, in Decorah, Iowa, to Victor and Vyra (Dawley) Masters, passed away surrounded by his family on January 25, 2025, at Gundersen Healthcare Center in Harmony, Minnesota.

A 1962 graduate of Canton High School, Darrell went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1968. In 2022, he was honored with a Quilt of Valor for his service.

Darrell spent many years farming and worked in road construction for over two decades. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting trips for deer, moose, bear, elk, pheasants, and turkey. Fishing trips to area lakes, Canada and Branson, Missouri, were among his cherished memories. A passionate sports fan, Darrell enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Timberwolves, and Green Bay Packers, proudly holding a shareholder's stake in the Packers. Darrell enjoyed a good game of cards and recently assisted Bette in delivering Meals on Wheels throughout the Canton area.

On April 6, 1968, Darrell married Bette Jane Harms after meeting her on a blind date. They were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, Minnesota, and recently celebrated 56 years together. Together, they were blessed with four children.

A lifelong member of the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church, Darrell served faithfully on the Church Session. Above all, he found immense joy in spending time with grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife, Bette, and their children: Gary (Melissa) Masters, Terry (Michelle) Masters, Kelly (Cristi) Masters, and Jana (Brock) Elton. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Blake, Hayden, and Abigail Hansen; Natassja (Andy) Goettsch; Cara (Colton) Johnson, Justin Masters, Hannah Masters, Brian Masters; Meagan Hauser, Tyler Hauser, Spencer (Lauren) Schulte, Kayden (Collin) Schulte, Tierney Schulte; Collin (Kaitlyn) Tweten, and Cole (Madison) Tweten. His great-grandchildren include Aria, Callum, Weston, Lane, Tayla, Zaidyn, Lakelyn, and Sylvie, with two more expected soon. Darrell is also survived by his in-laws, Roger (Helen) Harms, Brenda (Ric) Rosa, Doug (Mary) Harms, and several nieces and nephews.
Darrell is also survived by his sisters, Marian Masters and his twin, Darlene Casterton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Vyra Masters; nephew, David Casterton; and in-laws, Roland and Alice Harms.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church, 104 West Fillmore Avenue, Canton, Minnesota. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 31, from 4:00–7:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 1, from 9:30–11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately after at Burr Oak Cemetery. Lunch will be provided in the church basement following the service.
