PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

Torger and Caoline Tullershore Luros, both natives of Norway, came to America in 1839. They arrived in Milwaukee on September 16 of the same year coming by way of the Erie Canal and by ox and teams to the interior. Horses were high at that time, so he went to Michigan to buy a team, one of which died before he started back to Wis. They endured other hardships while in Wisconsin, losing their home by fire. They came to Winneshiek county in 1852, where he secured government land, which he sold in 1853 and moved onto a farm of two hundred and sixty five acres in Section 36, Hesper township. They were members of the Lutheran church. In their family were three children: Austin, Belle, and Anna.
