Duncombe, John F. Another Pioneer Dead.
John F. Duncombe one of the pioneer settlers at Fort Dodge, and one of Iowa’s strongest men, died at his home last Saturday evening, aged 71 years. Death came from a stroke of apoplexy following a general breaking down of his system. He was unconscious for a week and died without regaining consiousness.
Mr. Buncombe was born in Erie county, Penn., in 1831 He received an excellent education, and graduated at Allegheny College in 1852. He arrived at Fort Dodge in April, 1855 when that town was on the extreme borders of civilization and began the practice of law. He acquired a high reputation in his profession, was at the front rank in whatever line he chose to pursue and his reputation was state wide. He was prominent in politics and as a Democratic leader, at one time, was at the top. His Democracy was of the old school, however, and he had little sympathy with the tangents Democracy has taken in the last six years. His wife and five children survive him.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Oakland Cemetery and was born Oct. 22, 1831 and died Aug. 2, 1902.
