Obituary
Wells Peppers, one of the early settlers of Appanoose County, was born in Carolina, July 26, [1846] died at his home in Promise City, April 7, 1909, aged nearly 63 years. He came to Iowa about 1850 and made his home in Appanoose County for many years. About six years ago he moved to Promise City. Mr. Peppers was twice married and is survived by his wife, three daughters and four sons. The daughters are Frankie Peppers, of Whiteman, Neb., Mrs. Adelaide Temple of Des Moines, Ia., Mrs. Kate Atwell of Confidence. The sons are Reuben, W. S., J. E. and Charley. Funeral services were held at Chariton River church April 9 conducted by Rev. W. E. Jones of Seymour. In his sermon Rev Jones paid a well deserved tribute to Mr. Peppers as one of the pioneers who did much for the upbuilding of the country in an early day.
