Betty Duskin
(April 6, 1819 – April 2, 1907)

Seymour Democrat, Seymour, Iowa, Thurs., Apr. 18th, 1907, p.1
Obituary
Betty Swain Duskin was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, April 6, 1819, died at the home of her son, J. B. Duskin, Siloam Springs, Ark., April 2, 1907, aged 87 years, 11 months and 26 days. With her husband, William Duskin, she moved from her native state of North Carolina in 1852, to Illinois where they resided for a short time. They came to Wayne County in 1854 and settled on the old homestead one half mile west of Otterbein Chapel in 1856. On this farm she lived continuously for 51 years and here she reared a pioneer family of seven children, all but one of whom are now living in distant states. They are J. W., D. W., A. L. Duskin and Mrs. L. N. Tweedy all of Bellville, Kansas; Mrs. J. J. Turner of Kniffin, Iowa; Mrs. W. C. Hinshaw of Rancher, Montana; and J. B. Dusking of Siloam Springs, Ark. Her two oldest children died in infancy in North Carolina, making nine in all in the family. Aunt Betty, as she was known for many years by her friends and neighbors, was reared in the Quaker faith, but she later joined the Wesleyan, Methodist church and later the United Brethren. Her life is known as that of a consistent Christian and she will be remembered in the community in which she lived for over half a century, for her kindly words and good deeds. About a month before her death, she moved with her son, J. B. Duskin from the farm to a new home in Siloam Springs, Ark. She seemed to enjoy the change and was quite well for one of her years up to within a day or two before her death, and she retained her mental faculties until the last, when she peacefully passed away into the arms of a loving Savior. The remains were brought her last Thursday, accompanied by her sons, J. B., D. W., and A. L. Duskin. Funeral services were held at Otterbein Chapel, south of town, where she was long a member, conducted by the pastor, Rev. McVay. A large number of her old friends and neighbors were present to bear testimony to her noble life and character and of the high esteem in which she was held by all. The remains were interred in the Genoa Cemetery by the side of her husband who preceded her to the better land many years ago.
