A memorial graveside service for Charles Ross Stephenson, MD, 78, Ventura, Calif., who died Saturday, April 15, 1989, in a Ventura hospital, April 15, 1989, in a Ventura hospital after a long illness, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Raymond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The son of Midwestern country doctor, Stephenson was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Milton to Charles and Addie Stephenson. In 1933 he graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, where he played football and was a member of AKX. He married Mary Montgomery of Fairfield Aug. 10, 1935, and through the years has been a frequent visitor in Fairfield.
He graduated from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Neb., in 1938, interned at Binghampton City Hospital in Binghampton, N.Y., and served in the Army Medical Corps from 1941 to 1945, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A member of the American College of Chest Physicians, he took his internal medicine residency at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. He set up private practice in Ventura, which expanded into a four-doctor practice, and was TB Control Officer for Ventura County for 10 years. He served as Ventura Community Memorial Hospital chief of staff from 1962 t0 1964, and after retiring in 1977, still served on its board of trustees for more than 10 years.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Charles of Ventura; a sister, Marjorie Rogers of San Diego; a brother, William of Riverside and two nephews.
