William W. Garrett, 65, of Keosauqua, died Monday, November 6, 1989 at University Hospital, Iowa City. he had suffered a stroke following heart surgery.
He was born September 26, 1924 at Oskaloosa, son of Arley W. and Thelma Mitchell Garrett. He married Miladean Bennett May 21, 1948 at Montezuma. Bill graduated from Oskaloosa high School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and lived in Montezuma, Monroe, Corydon and Albia, and in Keosauqua since 1979. He operated the Van Buren Body Shop in Keosauqua, was a member of Beer-Barker Post 113, American Legion, Keosauqua, Farm Bureau, was active in Little League Baseball in Albia and was an avid sports fan.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, Thomas, Adel; Kelly, Oskaloosa; and Scott, Davenport; two daughters, Dana Shehan, Ft. Madison and Theresa Major, Goldsboro, North Carolina and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Thelma Garrett, Oskaloosa, three brothers, Robert, Carlsbad, New Mexico, Donald, Des Moines; and Keith, Oskaloosa; and six sisters, Dorothy Hazlett, Kansas City, Kansas; Arlene Salway, Oskaloosa; Betty Plate, Pella; Margie Black, Oskaloosa; Mary Lou Beyer, Searsboro and Elaine Brown, Oskaloosa.
His body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Science, Des Moines.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, 1989 at 11 A.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Friends may call at the family home at 1101 Broad Street, Keosauqua. Interment of cremains will be later in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials to the Albia Little League Association or Van Buren Community High School Atheltic(err) Department may be left at the funeral home.
