Fred C. Perkins Dies of Injuries

Fred C. Perkins, 21, of Keosauqua died at about 8:15 a.m. Monday at University Hospital in Iowa City where he had been in critical condition since early Friday.

Perkins, son of Dr. and Mrs. C.R. Perkins, was one of four Iowa University students and three others injured in a one-car accident early Friday when a two-door sports car struck a railroad overpass off U.S. Highway 6 and 218.

He suffered sever head injury and skull fractures and underwent brain surgery Saturday at the hospital.

Driver of the car, Jamie Tom Janios, 20, of Mason City, was given a summons by Iowa City police for failing to have his car under control. He suffered facial and ear lacerations requiring 1,000 stitiches.

In serious condition at the hospital is George Perry, 20, of Sioux Falls, S.D. Also hospitalized in fair or good condition are Ralph E. Bramhall, 19, of Keokuk, Charles L. Swearingen, 37, of McGregor, Tex., John T. White, 29, of Gatesville, Tex., and Judith Sterger, 18, of Coralville.

The body was taken to the Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauua(sp) with services Wednesday at the Congregational Church, with the Rev. Millard Marshall officiating. Burial was in Purdom Cemetery.
