JOHN N. CALHOUN
Was born on December 2, 1903 at Birmingham, Iowa. His father, the late O.S. Calhoun, has been a prominent stock buyer in that community for forty years. His mother lives on a farm west of Birmingham. John was raised on a farm adjoining Birmingham and attended the Birmingham schools; also Parsons College, Fairfield, where he worked his way through and was graduated in 1926. Taught in the Lockridge, Iowa, high school for two years. Operated restaurant and started produce business at Lockridge. Attended University of Iowa College of Law on George G. Wright scholarship in first year and was graduated in 1929. Admitted to practice in state and federal courts in 1929 and entered into active practice with J.C. Calhoun at Keosauqua under the firm name of Calhoun and Calhoun, of which he is still a member.
Was senator in the Iowa legislature from Van Buren and Jefferson counties during the 45th special and 46th sesisons(sp) of the Iowa legislature. Now candidate for the Republican nomination as U.S. Represetative (Congressman) from the first district of Iowa.
