September 15, 1930 - October 27, 2019

Irene Marie Stalcup, wife of Clarence E. Stalcup was promoted to glory to be with her Savior on October 27, 2019. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2 at Mt. Ayr Regular Baptist Church, Mt. Ayr, Ia. Pastor Seth Denney will officiate the service. Burial will be at Groesbeck Cemetery near Lorimor. Open visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Friday November 1, with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Memorials are suggested Mt. Ayr Regular Baptist Church or Murray Baptist Church. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com.

She was born to Ralph and Dorothy Edwards on September 15, 1930. At the age of 10 Irene came to understand, according to the Bible, that salvation is only by what Jesus Christ did for her on the cross of Calvary and she trusted Him to be her personal Savior. She acknowledged her faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 10 and remained faithful in her service to the Lord, all of her life. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1948. Irene and Clarence were married on September 3, 1954. This union was blessed with six children: Priscilla, Paul, Catherine, Daniel, Thomas, and Ronald. Clarence and Irene farmed east of Arispe where they raised their family. In 1985 they moved to Murray where they resided for 29 years. After 2 ½ years of living in an apartment in Afton, Irene and Clarence moved into an addition which was built for them at the house of their son Thomas near Tingley, Iowa.

Irene loved teaching the Bible to children which she did for over 60 years in the churches that they faithfully attended. She also was very creative, designing numerous VBS crafts and making useful items for her home. She loved making things for others in her kitchen (including countless buckeyes) and with her sewing machine. Of course she counted it a special blessing whenever their children or some of their 30 grandchildren or 21 great grandchildren could stop by to visit.

In the last few years her main activity has been assisting and caring for her husband, Clarence, who deals with blindness and other health challenges. In spite of these challenges, in September, 2019 they celebrated their 65th anniversary. The godly example she set forth will be remembered and treasured by her family and friends for years to come.

Irene is survived by her husband Clarence Stalcup of Tingley; six children Priscilla (husband Dave) Carlson of Prescott, Ia., Paul (wife Barbara) Stalcup of Osceola, Ia., Catherine (husband Dwayne) Straw of Omaha, Neb., Daniel (wife Kristina) Stalcup of Des Moines, Ia., Thomas (wife Vera) Stalcup of Tingley, Ia. and Ron (wife Tammy) Stalcup of Beloit, Wis.; a sister-in-law Bea Edwards of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
