A WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
September 4, 1883 at Afton, Iowa, Charles H. Schofield, was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Wilson, both of near Kent, Iowa, the ceremony performed by D. Davenport, now of Creston, Iowa. They started housekeeping on what is known as the W. F. Tripp homestead southwest of Kent.
Thursday, September 4, 1913, was the thirtieth anniversary of this event and their old friends and neighbors to the number of about one hundred perpertrated a surprise upon them by gathering at their home two and one half miles east of Kent with well filled baskets in advance of the noon hour. The day was spent in feating and amusements at this historic spot - the old McDuffie Homestead - everyone having a royal good time.
The six children of Mr. & Mrs. Schofield were present to help along with the festivites of the occasion. A good size purse was presented with instructions to purchase something that might seem best to them as a memento of the occasion. The Hon. C. H. Thomas made the presentation speech which was responded to by Mr. & Mrs. Schofield in a happy but earnest vein.
Mr. Schofield is one of the largest land owners in the county and one of our most prosperous farmers. He and his wife have a large circle of friends and stand high in this community.
