Death of Ira Melick
Ira Melick, the fourth son of Robert and Delilah Melick, was born in Toledo, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1866, and died at the home of his brother, Samuel Melick, in Whitten, Iowa, May 30, 1890, aged 32 years, 5 months and 12 days. His boyhood was passed in Toledo where he lived till the old home was broken up by death and since that time he has lived with his brothers at Perry and Whitten, where he has a wide circle of friends who deeply mourn his departure. While his death was sudden and unexpected it was known that he was in ill health. About five years ago he suffered from the effects of which he never fully recovered.
In early life Mr. Melick became a Christian and united with the United Brethren Church and ever after led a sober, quiet and steadfast Christian life. His remains were brought to Toledo for interment, and after a brief service at the cemetery conducted by Dr. M. R. Drury, pastor of the United Brethren Church, were laid to rest by the side of his parents and one sister.
Three brothers, R. E. and G. R. Melick, merchants at Perry, Samuel who resides in Whitten and Mrs. Sallie Lytle, of Bigelow, Mo., are left to mourn and all were present at the funeral services. They were accompanied by Mr. Lytle and the wife of Samuel Melick, and were met at the railroad station by a large number of their old friends who gave them earnest expressions of sympathy, and proceeded with them to the place of burial. The evidences of sympathy from the friends and associates of other years were greatly appreciated by the members of the bereaved family.
