LO,

The poor Indians have quit farming. It is too much like work. Winnebago’s, in Wisconsin, having been trying to farm for several years, and now they propose to rest. If the squaws won’t farm, then the Lord should pity the braves.

There is a small reservation of some 240 acres in Tama County, this state, occupied by the Mesquakie (Musquaquies). They too have quit hard work. As far as their needs are concerned 20 acres would answer them just as well as 240. But the squaws object to either pulling the plow or holding it. So it look as though there was no more work for the aborigines of America.
