VAN VECHTEN, Ralph, 72 N. Adams St.; res. 1507 N. State St., Chicago, 111. Bunker; b. Mattawan, Mich., Aug. 29, 1862: s. Cliarles D. and Ada A. (Fitch) Van Vechten: ed. Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Minneapolis; m. Tama, Iowa. Oct. 19, 1887. Fannie Maynard: one daughter, Duane. Established the Stylus (social and commercial Journal) at Cedar Rapids, in 1878; in 1889 entered the service of G. P. Van Vechten, banker; in 1887 this bank was converted into the Cedar Rapids National Bank, of which became cashier, continuing in same until 1905, when elected second V.-pres. of the Commercial National Bank of Chicago, made senior v.-ргеs. of same in 1909; later bank was merged with the Continental National Bank In 1910, under name of Continental and Commercial National Bank, of which he was elected v.-pres. and dir., which position he still holds: also pres. of Cedar Rapids National Bank: sec. and dir. in Commercial National Safe Deposit Company, of Chicago: dir. Continental and Commercial Trust and Savings Bank, and U. S. Gypsum Co., Chicago. Chmn. of the Executive Committee of the Clearing House Section of the American Bankers' Assn.: member Executive Council of American Bankers' Assn. Member Holland Society of New York. Holland Society of Chicago. Hawkeye Fellowship Club of Chicago and Michigan Society of Chicago. Recreation: Golf. Clubs: Chicago, Chicago Athletic Assn., Midday. South Shore Country, Glen View.
