OBITUARY

LARS GERHARD OMVIG

Lars Gerhard Omvig was born in Hamilton county, Jan. 8, 1879. He died at his home in Story City, November 22, 1939, at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 14 days.

He was the son of Thor and Alice Omvig and was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul's Lutheran church, and was a member there until he moved to Story City five years ago. Three years later he joined the Immanuel church here.

He was united in marriage to Belle Olson on July 18, 1901. This union was blessed with two sons, Burnett and Arnold. Besides his wife and two sons he is survived by four grandchildren, five sisters, three brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.

His sisters are: Martha Malmanger, Thor, Iowa; Bertha Sylvester and Louisa Stout of Story City; Inger Stout of Jewell; Ellen Malmanger of Bricelyn, Minn., and his brothers, Tom and Ed of Story City and Emil of Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the home at 1:30 and at 2 o'clock in the Immanuel Lutheran church, Rev. Heimarck officiating.

The Lake Center Octet, of which Mr. Omvig was a charter member, sang the song "Asleep in Jesus" at the home.

At the church the Octet sang "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God."

The choir of which Mr. Omvig was also a member, sang "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Ser." These were his favorite hymns.

Interment was made in Fairview cemetery. A sum of money was contributed to missions in his memory. The Octet sang "Father in Heaven" at the cemetery. The Octet acted as pallbearers: Gerhard Fardal, Eugene Fardal, William Parker, Helmer Satre, Theodore Hoversten, Truman Quam, Clifton Madson was honorary pallbearer.

Those who attended from a distance included: Mr. and Mrs. Eric Malmanger and family, Mrs. Carroll Dahl, Bricelyn, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Omvig and daughter, of Waterloo; Mrs. Martha Malmanger, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Johnson, Thor; Mrs. G. L. Bryant and daughter of Hardy, Iowa; Dr. and Mrs. Ross Bailey and sons, Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Malmanger, Ames; H. C. Omvig, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Thompson of Thompson, Iowa; Mrs. Ella Ekstrand, Mrs. Grover Chenoweth, Helen Gaard, Des Moines; Roy Gaard, Garden City; and Mrs. Wm. Swenson of Maxwell.
