MRS. CHAS. J. BROWN

Mattie Kent, daughter of John and Elizabeth Kent, was born in Illinois, April 28, 1866. When she was seven years old she moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Iowa and settled near Ames, close to friends. Here she spent her girlhood and became one of Story county's prominent school teachers.

In 1885 she was married to Chas. J. Brown, son of James and Rebecca Brown of Story City. He preceded her in death, passing away April 5, 1914. To this union were born two children, Dr. LeRoy G. Brown of Onawa, and Carrie Brown Weiss of Denison; both of whom are left to mourn her loss, together with six grandchildren. Her father, mother, sister and three brothers have preceded her in death.

She joined the Church of Christ at Ames about the year of 1902, and still held her membership at that church. She was a faithful follower of Christ, tho her illness in the last 25 years kept her from taking an active part in her church.

She was of a loving and sympathetic disposition and won many friends, who will miss her ever cheery temperament. She was a woman of great fortitude and bore her sorrows in silence. In her passing the family has lost a most loving mother and grandmother, but He who doeth all things well, hath willed it so.
