TOM SCOTT DIED IN OTTAWA, ILL.

Well Known Man of Story City Had Lived in the Lutheran Home There Several Months

Word was received here some time ago that Thomas T. Scott, for many years a resident of this place, had died at Ottawa, Ill., but we were unable to any particulars.

It appears that he took sick the first of July and passed away on the 15th of that month. His sister, Carrie Scott of Chicago, was at his bedside during the time of his sickness and his tow sons were there when he closed his tired eyes in their last sleep.

Funeral services were held at the Home and interment made at the cemetery in Helmer, Ill., where his wife was buried in 1881. Rev. Nils Klungstvedt officiated at the funeral.

Obituary

Thomas T. Scott was born in Skaanevik, Norway, May 25, 1847, and died at the Pleasant View Lutheran Home at Ottawa, Ill., July 15, 1938, being thus a few weeks over 91 years of age.

He came to the United States with his parents in 1857. His father joined the army in the Civil war and young Tom had to take his place at the head of the family during his absence, which meant heavy work in those days for young shoulders.

His wife died early, in 1881, leaving him with the care of two children. He never married again. With his sons married and settled for themselves, Mr. Scott came to Story City about 20 years aago, and lived here alone in the house he acquired across the street from the Immanuel church.

His hearing gradually failed and of late years he was virtually deaf. Several months ago his sons prevailed on him to enter the home at Ottawa, where he was well cared for in every respect.

He is survived by the two sons, Lewis and Cyrus; three sisters, Julia Visness, Mrs. H. H. Wicks and Carrie Scott.

Mr. Scott had always taken interest in the work of his church. For many years his contributions in missions and benevolences were regular and generous.
