GERHARD OSTREM

Thomas Gerhard Ostrem, son of Tom and Regena Ostrem, was born on the Ostrem homestead 4 miles north of Roland on November 27, 1901 and passed away the 23rd of November, 1937, at the age of 35 years.

He was baptized in the Elim church at Randall by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud and confirmed in the Salem church at Roland by Rev. Sandven, the family pastor. He grew to manhood on the farm north of Roland and attended grade school at the Espe school and also attended Jewell Lutheran college for a short time.

He was a member of the Salem Lutheran church at Roland.

Eight years ago he moved to Story City with the family and resided here until his death.

He seemed to be in his usual health when he retired Monday evening about 6:30. The next morning when members of the family called him for breakfast they couldn't wake him. Coming to his bedside they could see that Gerhard would never answer anymore. The cause of his death was a ruptured heart.

He is survived by his mother, two brothers, Alfred and Selmer and one sister, Edith, besides a host of friends and relatives. His father passed away the 24th of May, 1920.

Funeral services were conducted from the home in Story City and at the Salem Lutheran church in Roland by his pastor, Rev. Holen, and he was laid to rest in the Roland cemetery.

The pall bearers were Magnus Olson, Amos Cole, Lloyd Halverson, Orville Twedt, Henry Borwick and Homer Wicks.

Rev. Holen sang a solo at the house and Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd sang two duets at the church, "Someday We'll Understand" and "God Will Take Care of You."

A large crowd gathered to pay their last respects to their departed friend.

Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Anderson, Mildred, Ava and Eunice; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Ness and Marilyn and L. S. Sevold, all of Estherville; Elmer and Melvin Sevold, Balaton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Milford Olson and Mrs. O. F. Olson of Woolstock, Iowa; Obert Olson of Williams, Mrs. Olous Rorem, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Rorem, Mr. and Mrs. Berlin Rorem, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sevold and Walter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Twedt, all of Radcliffe; Mrs. Erick Hanson, Lester and Erma of Hubbard; Miss Melva Rorem and Miss Palma Durby of Forest City; Mr. and Mrs. A.
