SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – Velda Belle Juffer, age 96, of Sioux Center, formerly of Ireton, Iowa went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday October 26, 2024, at Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be Thursday October 31, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton with Pastor Nathan Kuperus officiating. The burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. just prior to the funeral at the church. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The family prefers, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in Velda’s name to the Ireton Community Foundation or the Ireton Christian Reformed Church Memorial Fund. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on the Ireton Christian Reformed Church Facebook page.

Velda was born December 15, 1927, on the family farm near Ireton, Iowa to Frank and Clara (Watkins) Bowden. She was the fifth of seven children. She grew up on the farm 4 miles north of Ireton and attended country school through sixth grade and then attended the Ireton Public School where she graduated. After her graduation she was employed as a telephone operator for 4 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and Central Telephone Company of Le Mars, Iowa.

Velda married Gerald A. Juffer on June 30, 1947, at the Presbyterian Church in Ireton. They made their home in Ireton for 59 years until they moved to Independent Living in Sioux Center, Iowa in 2006. Her husband Gerald passed away on May 1, 2009. On October 1, 2019, she moved to Crown Pointe Assisted Living and on August 24, 2022, she moved into Crown Pointe Long Term Care. They were blessed with five children.

Velda will always be remembered as a loving Wife and Mother, who took pride in her family and home. She loved quilting and belonged to the quilting club while wintering in Arizona where they made quilts for the Boys and Girls Homes. She also enjoyed fishing, especially at their summer home in Okoboji and enjoyed baking. While living at Crown Pointe in Sioux Center she stayed busy attending the many daily activities and especially enjoyed playing bingo.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Dr. John) of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Ronald (Debra) of Spirit Lake, Iowa, her daughters, Lanae of Wichita Falls, Texas, Pat (Steven) Flake of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Anna of Keokuk, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great- grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Velda was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; a son, Dennis; granddaughter, Velerie; parents, Frank and Clara Bowden; brothers, Thayne, Dean, and Homer; sisters, Ardel Smit, Betty Lovrien and Wanda Kuchel.
