Services for Norman J. Moret, age 85, of Sheldon and formerly of Boyden, who passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George with Pastor Bryan Anderson, officiating.

Graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.

Visitation with family present will be from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to disperse to missions within the community.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Norman James Moret, the son of Hyman and Margaret (Moret) Van Maanen and adoptive parents Bill and Dena Moret, was born on March 28, 1939, on the family farm in rural Boyden. He attended country school and graduated from Boyden High School in 1957. On September 22, 1959, he was united in marriage to Gladys Dammann at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. After their marriage the couple farmed for many years before they retired in 2018 and moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in April of 2023. Norm passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from a heart condition and pneumonia reaching the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

Norm was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George. He also served as an elder at First Reformed Church in Boyden. He sang for many weddings and funerals and was known for his low bass voice, and he also sang in a gospel quartet. Norm also loved playing fastpitch softball, bowling, horseshoes, golf, and tending to his huge garden, which he loved sharing and providing produce to anyone in need in the community.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Gladys of Sheldon; children and their spouses, Greg and Grace Moret of Boyden, Nancie and Chuck Nation of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Mike and Lisa Moret of Spencer; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Ben, Connor, Gini, Tina and Peter; two great grandchildren, Lane and Lyla; siblings, Leona and Bill Rosenboom of Sheldon and Larry Moret of Boyden; also nieces, nephews, and friends.

Norm was preceded in death by his biological and adoptive parents; daughter-in-law, Sharon Moret and brother Kenneth and Rose Van Maanen
