Boogaards Celebrate Century

A century farm celebration was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bogaard of Orange City on Sunday, June 24. Their farm has been in the Bogaard family for 100 years, beginning in 1884 with Dirk Bogaard, then Nicholas Bogaard and now Milton Bogaard. A worship service for relatives was held in the Bogaard Theatre of the Rowenhorst Student Center at 11 a.m., with family members providing music, the message, the history of the farm and memories of the past.

Guests were then treated to dinner at the Apostles, followed by a time of visiting at the Bogaard farm. A flowering crab tree was presented by Kathy Frerichs, Ruth Van Voorhis, sisters of Mr. Bogaard, and Ethel Bogaard, sister-in-law. The name Bogaard means flowering orchard.

Four generations were present, the oldest being Albert Bogaard, 94, of Firth, Nebr., the only living son of Dirk. Joe Bogaard, 80, of Sioux City, nephew of Dirk, was also present. Those attending were from Orange City, Sioux Center, Little Rock, Coralville, Iowa City, Sioux City, Sheldon, Sanborn, LeMars, Remsen, Hinton, Humboldt, Storm Lake, Firth, Neb., and Holland, Mich.
